What was new at 'Beyond the Pale'

January 2002

January 31:

Added the seventh part – In the Wee Small Hours of Sixpence – of 'The Secrets of the Hive' / 'Extracting the Honey', a unique Procoholic double-act that looks very carefully at the Westside Pandora's Box album of Procol Harum rarities and remixes (thanks, Larry and Clyde)

January 30:

Added a page of good images of the whole of Procol Harum on stage in Copenhagen (thanks, Jonas)

January 29:

Added numerous entries to this page of fifty-two different Procol Harum songs of which cover versions are available on record

Added a page about a surprising timepiece(thanks, Larry)

January 28:

Added to the page of Procol mis-hearings (search for 'Letter B')

Added a pre-Grand Hotel snippet from Billboard, 9 December 1972 (thanks, Geoff)

January 27:

Added illustrations to several pages: here, here, here and here(thanks, Larry, and Beverly)

Added the full playlist to our report of the uclaradio.com Broadcast Marathon # 4 (thanks, No 6)

We've also entirely re-organised the way in which our 236 megabytes of .mp3 files are stored and accessed on the website. It's possible therefore that there will be one or two broken links, so please let us know if you have difficulties.

Mind you … we put up a page of mp3s last week and asked for feedback and there were not many responses : so it seems BtP's 1,000+  visitors were not very interested in soundclips!

January 26:

Added a small review of a crucial Matthew Fisher solo album (thanks, Craig)

January 25:

Added links to two websites – here and here– that printed a report of the recent Procol Harum gig in Warsaw, and one to a translation of that report into English, a language possibly more familiar to many BtP visitors (thanks, Mirek and Edyta)

January 24:

Added a page of pictures of Geoff Whitehorn playing with Procol Harum at Horsens (thanks, Hermann)

Wouldn't it be great if 2002 was the year in which Matthew Fisher embarked on a fresh solo-album? You can influence the chances of this: see here for details

January 23:

First there is a mountain named after Procol Harum … then there's a star named after BJ Wilson … at long last we're able to reveal the next wonder of the world to be named after the band, thanks to one fan's passionate dedication (thanks, Beverly)

January 22: Happy Birthday Mick Grabham (1948)!

All the prizes have been sent out to winners of the recent BtP competitions; it would be helpful if recipients would let us know when they arrive.

Added a good review of the most recent Procol Harum band-only gig in London proper (thanks, Dave)

Remind yourself of another London paper's opinion of the same show

January 21:

Added a page of pictures taken in the wind-down from Procol Harum's recent gig in Warsaw (thanks, Mirek)

January 20:

Added a grand page about yesterday's Procol Harum broadcast marathon … details of songs played, news of competition winner, chat from DJ and special Paler guest, top tracks from the Palers' Band, sixteen bite-size mp3s for you to download (including numerous name-checks for individuals who visit this site), dozens of links to other relevant bits of BtP, … and a request for some feedback … (thanks, No 6, One-Eye and Cerdes)

January 19: Today, fourth Procol Harum Marathon broadcast at uclaradio.com: Procol Harum + Palers' Band. DJ No 6 will be featuring another competition with CD prizes (a Procol Harum CD with bonus tracks, and a choice of Palers' Band CDs): in order to win, we understand, you'll need to know what the Palers' Band played at Manchester in June … the set-list is available here

Added the sixth part – Pandora's Box – of 'The Secrets of the Hive' / 'Extracting the Honey', a unique Procoholic double-act that looks very carefully at the Westside Pandora's Box album of Procol Harum rarities and remixes (thanks, Clyde and Larry)

January 18: Tomorrow, fourth Procol Harum Marathon broadcast at uclaradio.com: Procol Harum + Palers' Band

"… you learn to read between the lines with Brooker and Fisher and Reid. 'Cos these are guys who kind of know: they have nothing to prove."

January 16:

Remind yourself ... was Procol Harum really named after a cat? (thanks, Sam)

January 15:

Do you want a free CD and a guest pass? The chanteuse Xyra, whose two fine albums were reviewed at BtP (re-read them here and here), is currently without a contract … if you'd like to vote for a new deal for her and her band, please visit this link and take a moment to vote for Xyra.

What's in it for you? If she wins you go on her gig guest-list, she sends you one of the CDs you helped her to finish, and your name goes in her liner notes … oh yes, and her band is desperate to seduce Procol Harum over to North America. Please support her … last date for voting is 15 January!

January 11:

Added the fifth part – Repent Walpurgis – of 'The Secrets of the Hive' / 'Extracting the Honey', a unique Procoholic double-act that looks very carefully at the Westside Pandora's Box album of Procol Harum rarities and remixes (thanks, Larry and Clyde)

People who won BtP Christmas prizes ... please send us your 'real'-world address, or we shan't be able to send your prizes out.

January 10:

Added a page of pictures taken in the build-up to Procol Harum's recent gig in Warsaw (thanks, Mirek)

January 9:

Added some screenshots from the excellent Danish TV show of Procol Harum in Copenhagen last month.

You can still order the official souvenir CD recording of the second Palers' Band gig and the official souvenir 2CD recording of the third Palers' Band gig (the second (Kristiansand) recording is still outselling the third (Manchester) one)

January 8: Christmas puzzle done with, and normal BtP operation resumed. But if your name appears on the prizewinners' list, please send us your 'real'-world address

Added a page of pictures of Procol Harum on-stage at Horsens (thanks, Hermann)

January 7:

Added the solution to the Christmas Conundrums, and a list of the Triumphant Victors. Many thanks to everyone who took part – hope you all enjoyed it, and maybe visited some forgotten corners of BtP in the process – and many thanks also, of course, to everyone who privided the prize goodies.

If your name appears on the prizewinners' list, please now send us the real-world address you'd like your prize to be sent to; in some cases you also need to specify what your chosen item is from the Shine Onmerchandise page.
