Changing the players ...

'Barricades'-era personnel shifts

PROCOL CHANGES (from a 1971 British music-paper, not sure which)

Procol Harum have added guitarist Dave Ball to their line-up to replace guitarist Robin Trower, who recently left Procol to form a band of his own. They have also added bass guitarist Alan Cartwright, who was with Every Which Way. Chris Copping, who has been doubling on bass and organ, now intends to concentrate on playing the organ. [but see this]

Matthew Fisher, an original member of the group who left after their initial success with A Whiter Shade Of Pale, will not now be rejoining Procol as was originally intended.

'Matthew was going to rejoin us,' Procol's lyricist Keith Reid explained, 'but he had taken on other commitments which made it impossible for him to be a permanent member.'

Procol Harum, whose latest album Broken Barricades is moving up both the American and British LP charts, return to the States at the end of July for what will be their eleventh American tour.
