The Miami News reviews Home

20 July 1970

The new Procol Harum album [not named anywhere in the article ] is full of surprises. The members of the group have shifted – Matthew Fisher is no longer and David Knights has been replaced by Chris Copping. Keith Reid is still writing his heavy words, Robbie Tower [sic] plays lead guitar, BJ Wilson is on drums, Gary Brooker voice and piano and Copping on bass guitar and organ.

A Whiter Sade [sic] of Pale was the open door for Procol, and the influence of heavy classical music, is in their new album as well. White [sic] Shade of Pale was based on the Bach contata [sic] Sleepers Awaken.

Their music is very clean and heavy. There are long crescendos led by Brooker's voice, the piano and organ. The guitars are not the lead, it is the keyboards. They get into a few chords and build from them higher and higher [sic].

The lyrics are weighted. They hang in the air – mostly about death, dying and lack of life … There is great beauty in the lyrics, and much sadness.
