The Norwegian 'Harlequin'

Second outing for this obscure but delightful Brooker / Reid song

Harlequin was first released by the Hollies on their 1979 album, Five Three One-Double Seven O Four.

Jonny Moen, however, informs BtP that it was also recorded by the Norwegian artist, Jahn Teigen, in 1986.

Above right is the label of a 12" maxi-single: Side 1 included a "Tornado Mix" of Harlequin, side 2 a "straight" version + one more song.

As stated on the label, written by Keith Reid / Gary Brooker.

The "straight" version was also released as a 7" single. When presenting this song on Norwegian Radio, Teigen said he'd got the song from Keith himself (which most likely is right).

But he also said it was a new song, never before released by any artist! Which proves to be wrong, of course.

I'd been playing the Hollies' version for ages, even listening to Gary's strong vocal at the end of that version!

The lower scan shows the 7" cover, which looks exactly like the 12" cover.
