Gary Brooker led a group of musicians in the challenge to write and record a song in six hours, as part of the annual Comic Relief 'Red Nose Day' charity fund-raising in the UK. Listen to it here Procolers Gary Josh Phillips and Mark Brzezicki took part as well. Click on the main group picture above to find out how to listen to the song and make your donation to the charity. As Gary explained to BtP, the various participants came together with some preliminary ideas, his own involving a Keith Reid lyric that had not yet been set to music. The various notions were tried out, and his prevailed. The lines in red were added by Gary to the Reid words. Gary Brooker felt that the song came out well given the haste with which it was compiled and performed. It was a little slower than he'd intended, and in the mix the rhythm guitars and background chorus didn't quite achieve the prominence that a little extra time at the console would have permitted. |
