Gary Brooker est né à Londres en 1945. A 3 ans
déjà, il fait ses débuts sur scène avec son père! En
1963, il est pianiste professionel. En 1967, il fonde le
groupe «Procol Harum», mondialement connu par la
chanson qu'il écrit et chante: «A Whiter Shade of Pale».
Il réalise, avec ce groupe, la première fusion entre
rock et classique en jouant dans le monde entier avec des
grands ensembles symphoniques. Gary Brooker was born in London in 1945. At three years of age he had already made his stage début with his father! By 1963 he was a professional pianist. In 1967 he founded the group, Procol Harum, known worldwide by the song that he wrote and sang, A Whiter Shade of Pale. With this group he created the first fusion between rock and classical music, playing round the world with big symphony orchestras. |
Si «Procol Harum» prend sa retraite (provisoire) en 1977, Gary Brooker poursuit son étonnante trajectoire musicale: tournées avec Eric Clapton, tournées en solo, il compose même un ballet. En 1992, «Procol Harum » sort un nouveau disque et repart en tournée mondiale. Il obtient une «standing ovation» de dix minutes dans l'un des temples du classique à Londres. Du jamais vu!
Although Procol Harum provisionally retired in 1977, Gary Brooker pursued his astonishing musical career: tours with Eric Clapton, solo tours, even composing a ballet. In 1992 [sic] Procol Harum released a new album, and again went out on world tour. He received a ten-minute standing ovation in one of London's classical music shrines. Unheard-of!
En 1968, Gary épouse Françoise, Suissesse née à Aigle. Dès 1981, le couple séjourne régulièrement à Gryon. Bien que n'ayant jamais composé pour Brass Band, Gary Brooker est flatté par la demande de la Fanfare de Gryon de composer le morceau d'ensemble du giron 1998. Ce défi l'intéresse et il compose «Bourdon des Alpes», impression d'un musicien anglais qui aime la Suisse!
In 1968 Gary married Franky, a Swiss girl born in Aigle. Since 1981 the couple have regularly holidayed at Gryon. Despite never having composed for Brass Band, Gary Brooker was flattered by the Fanfare de Gryon's request for him to compose the ensemble piece for the 1998 Giron. This challenge interested him, and he composed Bourdon des Alpes: the impressions of an English musician who loves Switzerland!
