Immer im selben Boot / Still in the Same Boat

Keith Reid's A Salty Dog was very loosely adapted by Heinz Torn for a German version by Karel Gott,
and published in 1969 by Essex Music International (in a piano/accordion/vocal arrangement)
 

"Alle Mann an Deck, wir legen ab!", hört man den Käpt'n schrei'n
Und hör'n wir ihn, dann wünschen wir, er möcht' beim Teufel sein.
Der Käpt'n, der ist ein Tyrann, er schikaniert uns bloß
Ach werft ihn doch den Haien vor, dann wären wir ihn los

Doch er und wir auf uns’rem Schiff wir sind im selben Boot
Er trinkt wie wir denselben Gin und ißt dasselbe Brot.
Doch eines Tags, da war's soweit, da kriegte ihn ein Hai
Und alle wir, wir dachten dann, die Plage wär' vorbei.

Da haben wir den langen Jan zum Käpt'n dann gemacht
Der lange Jan, der immer so gescherzt hat und gelacht.
Doch als er dann der Käpt'n war, begann dieselbe Not.
Da wußten wir: Wir sitzen doch immer im selben Boot

All hands on deck, we’re casting off,we hear the captain cry
And when we hear him, we wish he’s go to the devil
The captain, he’s a tyrant and he’s just tormenting us
Oh, throw him to the sharks, then we’d be rid of him. 

But he and we, on our ship, we’re in the same boat
He drinks the same gin as us and eats the same bread
But one day the time came and a shark got him
And all of us, we thought our trials were over. 

We made Big Jan our captain
Big Jan who always joked an laughed
But as soon as he was the captain, our troubles returned
Then we knew: we’re all still sitting in the same boat.
