V

 VAN DER GRAAF GENERATOR

UK prog rock band never to make major sales breakthrough. Noted for the near-operatic delivery and depth-plumbing lyrics of Peter Hammill who made many solo albums, after the band was 'killed off by punk', that fall into the 'hard-going' category of listening experiences.

Too-lazy-to-make-it Scouse band the Koobas, who lasted '63-'68 and made marvellous psych pop, were on that package tour in 1963 or so with the Paramounts, and their bassist Keith Ellis was later a van der Graafist.
Van der Graaf shared bill with Procol on 6 June 1976 Offenburg, Germany..

It is probably worthwhile to avert confusion over cover-versions by pointing out that Van der Graaf used opposite-to-Procol-and-related titles a few times. An instrumental album called The Long Hello was issued and 1977's release was The Quiet Zone coupled with another intended album The Pleasure Dome.

Van der Graafer Nic Potter is yet another contributor to the expansive roster of A Whiter Shade of Pale coverants.
