A la Recherche du Temps Perdu

Music by Chris Copping

In 2003 Chris sent BtP six demos of short pieces he was writing to accompany/commemorate his reading of Proust's famous work . Following some discussion on the Facebook page started by BtP, Chris gave his permission for clips to be published here for fans' enjoyment and interest. See also Chris's analysis of the Grand Hotel album, which mentions Proust (thanks, Chris!)

Excerpt 1: Combray Excerpt 2: La petite phrase Excerpt 3: (a gatecrasher)
Excerpt 4: Les jeunes filles en fleur Excerpt 5: L'amour et la jalousie Excerpt 6: Swann song

LA composer/pianist Jeremy Gilien wrote, of these extracts, 'These rich and expressive minor-mode miniatures, laced with whole-tone fragments and delicate dissonances, would seem tailor-made to underscore serious dramatic/romantic moments from a film or to serve as interludes between scenes in a play. I believe the Procol/Paler contingent could be counted on to see any film for which Chris Copping provided the score.  I hope to hear these pieces in their entirety some time soon!'
