As early as 18 June, Procol management alerted fans through ‘Beyond the Pale’ that “there is serious doubt that the promoter can fulfil his obligations”. Frustratingly, despite three weeks of effort from band and local agent, no revised agreement with the Festival promoter could be reached whereby Procol could be confident of having the correct equipment to deliver a professional show, and therefore – as of Tuesday 10 July – the band’s appearance is cancelled.

Manager Chris Cooke said, ‘We worked long and hard to make this happen, but in the end we could not be sure even of having a hotel, let alone being paid for our work. Procol Harum are disappointed and annoyed not to be able to travel and play to Italian fans. They love Italy and hope to play there again when circumstances permit.’
