Gary Brooker and Friends

'The Last Fling' : Guildford Civic Hall, 4 January 2004

1

The DJ 'Whispering' Bob Harris – who had confided his admiration for Procol Harum to BtP at Cropredy in the Summer of 2003 – introduced this evening of music from Gary Brooker and Friends. Quite an evening ...

Andy Fairweather Low and Eric Clapton, guitars

Terrific vocal and physical performances from Alvin Stardust ...
another musician we've seen guesting with No Stiletto Shoes

Stardust ... the former Shane Fenton ... in his leather trousers

Andy broke a string on his Strat, and moved to this nice resonator guitar (maybe a National?) while the string was being fixed offstage

The Zombies meet Manfred Mann meet Mr Stardust, in the form of frontmen Colin Blunstone and Paul Jones

Colin Blunstone with Procol's Dave Bronze on bass, and Henry Spinetti on drums

Colin Blunstone again. A freak of lighting made it look as though he was
wearing grey rubber gloves, but he sounded terrific

Dave Bronze and Frank Mead – the flute tells us this is Pretty Flamingo in progress. Note the 'No Stiletto Shoes' stickers on these amps, although the band tonight was billed as Gary Brooker and Friends

Dave Bronze with Procol Harum organist Pete Solley ... A Whiter Shade of Pale

Bronze, Mead and Solley

The hall was packed, and the crowd called out for more ... and still there'll be more, as we haven't shown any photos of The Commander yet, whose band this was, and who had brought all the fine musicians together
